i was in lower form but she's (Yuna) so famous with her bowling's achievement..

even my parents once asked me when they were on the way back from sumwhere on a plane..

dat nite, i was onlining and suddenly i searched-ed sumthing and RANTAI came out..

i was like 'wat's this' and there i knew Yuna, Ana n sumone else..

Setiap tahun, SMK Derma catat keputusan cemerlang dalam peperiksaan PMR dan SPM SEKOLAH Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Derma, sekolah berstatus elit di Perlis saban tahun mencatat keputusan cemerlang terutama peperiksaan Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) dan Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM). Malah, berbekalkan kecemerlangan itu, termasuk beberapa kelebihan lain dimiliki, tidak hairanlah sekolah berkenaan dipilih sebagai kelompok kluster, yang dilancarkan Kementerian Pelajaran.

Ditubuhkan pada 1948 sebagai sekolah menengah aliran Bahasa Inggeris pertama di Perlis dengan nama 'Derma English School'. Sejak itu, sekolah itu terus menghasilkan ramai pelajar berkualiti tinggi yang kini menjawat pelbagai kedudukan penting baik di sektor kerajaan atau swasta. SMK Derma tetap meneruskan peranannya dalam memajukan anak muda Perlis, terutama dalam menguasai bahasa Inggeris, dengan menjadikan bidang berkenaan sebagai salah satu daripada tiga bitara pilihan menerusi program sekolah kluster. Pengetuanya, Noor Aziah Ahmad, berkata pemilihan Bahasa Inggeris bukan bermaksud mahu mengenepikan bahasa sendiri, tetapi berdasarkan kepentingan serta keperluan sebagai nilai tambah yang perlu kepada anak bangsa.

Malah, katanya pendedahan bahasa terbabit di kalangan warga SMK Derma, menunjukkan hasil membanggakan terutama melalui gred pencapaian murid dalam mata pelajaran terbabit serta subjek lain yang menggunakan bahasa berkenaan sebagai pengantara. "Sebagai contoh, peratusan jumlah pelajar yang mendapat A dalam subjek Bahasa Inggeris dalam PMR meningkat daripada 77.4 peratus pada 2006, kepada 85 peratus (2007) dan 89 peratus tahun lalu. "Malah, peratusan pelajar mendapat A bagi dua subjek yang diajar dalam bahasa Inggeris iaitu Matematik dan Sains juga menunjukkan peningkatan antara dua hingga 10 peratus setiap tahun, sekali gus membuktikan pemilihan bahasa itu sebagai bitara sekolah kluster berhasil," katanya kepada Berita Harian, baru-baru ini. Ditanya mengenai usaha melonjakkan tahap penguasaan bahasa Inggeris di SMK Derma, Noor Aziah berkata, pihaknya menekankan beberapa aspek terutama membabitkan pengucapan awam dan debat yang dilaksanakan dengan kerjasama Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris dan Universiti Teknologi Mara.

Malah, katanya pihak sekolah sendiri turut mengadakan ‘English Day' dan ‘English Month' di mana semua guru dan pelajar diwajib menggunakan bahasa Inggeris sebagai perantara. "Untuk memperluaskan lagi penggunaan, pihak sekolah menghiasi dinding bangunan dan bilik darjah dengan mural serta bahan bacaan dalam bahasa Inggeris, selain menggalakkan mereka berkongsi bahan rujukan dalam bahasa berkenaan. "Paling menarik, kami turut memperkenalkan 'DEAR Programme' dengan matlamat memupuk budaya membaca dalam pelbagai genre bacaan, memperkasa projek NILAM, menggalakkan perkongsian ilmu, sekali gus mewujudkan generasi berminda kelas pertama," katanya.
Selain bahasa Inggeris, SMK Derma turut memilih dua lagi bidang iaitu sukan boling padang serta pancaragam sebagai pelengkap kepada bitara utama terbabit. Malah, pasukan boling padang SMK Derma dianggap antara yang terkuat, apatah lagi salah seorang daripada pelajarnya iaitu Nur Syafiqah Haidar Afif Abd Rahman,15, turut terpilih ke peringkat kebangsaan dan mewakili negara ke International Lawn Bowl Competition di Hong Kong, baru-baru ini. Noor Aziah berkata, SMK Derma kini mempunyai pasukan boling padang paling mantap dengan disertai 12 pelajar yang sering menyertai kejohanan termasuk ke peringkat kebangsaan. "Melihat keupayaan serta peluang yang ada, pihak sekolah mula menerapkan sukan berkenaan sebagai sebahagian daripada kurikulum Pendidikan Jasmani, sekali gus memberikan pendedahan semua pelajar mengenai sukan berkenaan. "Buat masa sekarang, kita ada pelajar yang sudah menempa nama dalam sukan boling padang. Apa pun, dengan kerjasama Persatuan Boling Padang Perlis, kami harap dapat meningkatkan lagi keupayaan sukan berkenaan di negeri ini, termasuk menyediakan skuad pelapis bagi mewakili negara kelak," katanya.

Bagi pasukan pancaragam pula, SMK Derma baru menggerakkan pada 2007, bagaimanapun ia dimulakan sepenuhnya pada 2008 selepas pihak sekolah menerima peruntukan untuk pembelian alat muzik serta kelengkapan diperlukan. Beliau berkata, SMK Derma kini mempunyai 50 pelajar yang aktif sebagai ahli pancaragam dengan bimbingan terus daripada jurulatih bertauliah Yamaha. "Buat masa sekarang sambutan terhadap bidang berkenaan amat menggalakkan dan kita banyak menerima jemputan untuk mengadakan pertunjukan termasuk pada Sukan Sekolah Premier Peringkat Kebangsaan di Perlis pada tahun lalu. "Pancaragam ini sebagai pengimbang kepada kedua-dua bidang kecemerlangan lain, apatah lagi muzik memainkan peranan penting dalam mengatasi kekusutan minda akibat tekanan ketika belajar," katanya.

"Alumni Yayasan Tun Razak(AYTR) is an organization which gathers the past and present participants of the most prestigious leadership program for SPM leavers in the country, the Tun Razak Leadership Program(PKTR). The program has being held since 1993 and the participants are exclusively selected from all over the country. Around 60 to 70 participants are being selected to join the program every year and AYTR has become a part of it since the year 2002. AYTR has vast experience in handling leadership programs throughout the country notably the PKTR itself and other leadership programs involving various groups. The alumni itself needs no introduction among government agencies and corporate bodies as it is well-known for producing the best student leaders in country and continue to contribute back to country in many ways."
